Can A Man Change His Stars?

What would you think of a future of a baby girl born of a thirteen year old mother with no father and no visible support? Certainly not what we call a bright future or we wouldn’t predict something great would come out of it. What if I tell you that this girl was physically and sexually abused several times before she was even thirteen years old? What if I told you that at thirteen this girl became pregnant herself? And gave birth to a still born child? What would you predict to be her future? What if by 14 she was so frustrated inside she was sent to juvenile hall for the kind of behavior she was indulging in? What would her future be? Most of you wouldn’t predict a very bright future for this girl and I bet that most of you would not imagine that this person would be Oprah Winfrey.

He didn’t talk until he was four years old or read until he was seven. One of his teachers labeled him as “mentally slow, unsociable and adrift forever in his foolish dreams.” His name: Albert Einstein.

“He possesses minimal football knowledge. Lacks motivation.” A so-called expert once said of Vince Lombardi.

Beethoven apparently liked to do his own thing and didn’t spend much time learning the correct technique with his violin.

His teacher said that Ludwig was hopeless as a composer.

Before he created Disneyland, Walter Disney went bankrupt several times. He was once fired by the editor of a newspaper for an apparent lack of ideas.

“He is too stupid to learn anything!” declared Thomas Edison’s ‘perceptive’ teachers.

Henry Ford failed miserably and went broke five times before finally succeeding with the automobile.

One of the greatest ‘movers and shakers’ of this century, made his most significant contributions as a ‘senior citizen.’ Winston Churchill was 62 before he finally became Prime Minister of England following a lifetime of setback and defeat, including failing the sixth grade.

When I was watching the movie “A Knight’s Tale” starring Heat Ledger, he ask his dad a question that change his life, “Can a man change his star?”

Based on what I have presented and seen, definitely my answer would be obvious.

It’s not what happens to you but what you do with what happens to you that shapes our lives. You can never control the environment or the actions of people towards you but what we can control is our reactions to what happens to us. The only person who we have absolute control of is us and no one else.

It’s not your fault if you were born poor… but if you die poor, it will be your fault. (hindi mo kasalanan kung pinanganak kang mahirap. Pero pag namatay kang mahirap, kasalan mo yan.) – Chad Atmosfera

Who we are today is the result of the decisions we have made in the past. You are today because of the decisions you’ve made yesterday and what makes a man extraordinary is the potential that we have which is our God-given ability or talent and our ability to decide in a given situation. The good news is – we all have it.

“It is our decision and not the conditions of life that determines our destiny.”

If there’s a difference between where you currently are and where you would like to be, it’s not any lack of ability or resources, it is your attitude and the image of who you think you are or who you think you are not.
It’s not important where you came from, it’s not important where you are right now, what’s important is where you are headed and the daily decisions you make every day.

“Extraordinary men are ordinary men in extraordinary situations who have managed well their God given talents/abilities and decisions on every given circumstance.”

I remember the movie “In pursuit of Happyness” with Will Smith. Have you seen that? Nothing was going right in his life. Lahat mali. But he dreamed, persevered and turned his life around! Its easy for us to blame our situation. but turning our situation around requires a good attitude and faith in God =)

Great people are great because they do not conform to the majority. Unfortunately this causes difficulties, and some times attention for the wrong reason.
